MyoProSRT is proud to provide advanced myoelectric orthotic services such as the MyoPro®, a Myoelectric Arm Orthosis designed to support a weak or paralyzed arm. The MyoPro can enable individuals to self-initiate and control movements of a partially paralyzed or weakened arm using their own muscle signals. When the user tries to bend their arm, sensors in the brace detect the weak muscle signal, which activates the motor to move the arm in the desired direction. With the orthosis, an individual may be able to return to levels of function and perform activities of daily living including feeding, reaching and lifting. The user is completely controlling their own arm. The MyoPro is intended for individuals with neuromuscular disorders that have resulted in a paralyzed arm. Disorders include:

Spinal Cord Injury
Brachial Plexus Injury or Plexopathy

About the Myoelectric Technology

Patented EMG (electromyography) control software continuously monitors and senses, but does not stimulate, the affected muscles. The user self initiates and achieves natural movement patterns by their own muscular signals that indicate intention to move. The system senses even a very weak EMG muscle signal and then processes data to a motor on the device that enables desired motion. This processing occurs so quickly that it is not apparent to the patient. Importantly, the EMG-driven device requires that users are activelyengagedthroughout the movement; if they stop, the device stops. No electrical stimulation or invasive procedures are employed.

The Benefits

The MyoPro is worn in support of regaining functional use of the affected arm and possibly returning to several activities of daily living (ADS). It is designed for ease of use, enabling patients to don and operate it at home. Clinical benefits include achieving gross motor functional goals as well as limiting comorbidities such as spasticity, edema, weakness and synergistic or compensatory movement patterns. Examples of Functional Goals:
Feeding – User can hold food down with fork attachment while cutting with non- affected side, improvement in hand to mouth motion
Carrying objects (bilaterally or unilaterally) – Laundry basket, purse
Safety – User can carry objects in affected side while allowing non-affected side to stabilize or use their walking aid throughout task.

The SRT Upper Extremity Team

Each MyoPro brace is custom fitted to each patient for optimum performance. The MyoPro is available only at facilities certified to provide and fit the MyoPro, and each patient will be seen by our Upper Extremity Team including our lead prosthetist, orthotist, occupational therapist and senior technician. With decades of combined experienced with myoelectrics, the SRT Upper Extremity Team is dedicated to the patient’s success, and will help guide the patient through the many features of the MyoPro including:

  • EMG surface sensors and system software to detect and assist with motion.
  • Assistance levels customized to a user’s needs.
  • Easy to use and intuitive controls for the everyday user.
  • Lightweight material available in a variety of colors and patterns.
  • Manual 3 degree of freedom wrist articulation in addition to myoelectric initiated elbow movement.
  • Free support and training for Occupational Therapists
