Who is Turnstone?

For over 10 years, the Fort Wayne Amputee Walking School has been held at the Turnstone Center for Disabled Adults & Children (the longest running Amputee Walking School in the country). Turnstone provides a wide array of programs and services that enhance the lives of people with disabilities of all ages. Its family-like atmosphere creates an environment where children and adults find dignity and the help to overcome obstacles and regain independence in a place that is uniquely theirs. Turnstone empowers people with physical disabilities to reach for their full potential in every aspect of life. The agency’s programs and services evolve and expand to respond to the needs and desires of people with disabilities and their families throughout our regional community. We are guided by the vision that one day, all people will live, work, learn and play in a community based on abilities, not disabilities. To accomplish this, Turnstone is a national leader in the provision of therapeutic health and wellness, childcare, adult day services, and sports and recreation programs for people with disabilities.

Turnstone is where disabilities are turned into possibilities.

Therapeutic Services

Turnstone’s licensed therapists are experienced, client-focused and dedicated to maximizing the independence of every client they see. Therapists determine the scope of therapy through an initial evaluation and create an individualized treatment plan. Therapists work in tandem with other agency services to provide a continuum of care unmatched in our community. The ultimate goal is to empower children and adults to maximize their independence.

Adult Day Services (ADS)

Turnstone’s Adult Day Services program is a compassionate environment that meets the unique needs of adults and veterans with physical disabilities, age 18 and older. Turnstone’s caring staff provides a variety of activities, including intergenerational activities, recreation, music therapy, crafts, cooking classes, book club and much more.

Adult Day Service activities are not only therapeutic, but are designed to increase socialization, activity level and promote further independence. Adult Day Services offers respite for caregivers with the comfort of knowing our licensed nurse and qualified staff are also providing medical monitoring and assistance.
